Can the Scalability of Blockchain in GameFi be solved?

It was believed that the speed of the blockchain could not support a pleasurable integrated gaming experience. However with the development and introduction of the Layer2 solution and a centralized-decentralized hybrid model, many of the previous roadblocks have been addressed.

The quality of blockchain gaming has been increasing dramatically thanks to the Layer2 model some examples include but are not limited to:

Sidechain:

Polygon, Loom and Ronin sxDai,

Plasma

OMGNetwork and LeverJ

ZK Rollup:

dYdX, LRC, ZLS, Herme, zkSync and Aztec

Optimistic Rollup:

Habitat, Arbitrum and Optimism

Validium:

DeversiFi, Sorare and ImmutableX

The big question, what is the difference between GameFi and Web2 games? In short, it is ownership and liquidity. In Web2, gaming gear is purchased within the game, meaning the gaming gear can not be withdrawn and that ownership and governance remains with the gaming company.

Additionally, if you wanted to sell your gear in the market, finding a marketplace with demand may not be possible.

Defi as a FinanceI Infrastructure

The other reason for GameFi growth is P2E (Play-to-Earn). Axie Infinity merges the game character and NFTs together, giving the NFTs value and allowing players to profit from the game .

Many GameFi games take on the Dual Token model, which so far has demonstrated to be a far more sustainable approach than the Single Token model.

With the single token model, the price increase will cause a higher cost for new players, and once the price starts falling, players may be forced to sell their tokens meaning players are likely to leave the game too.

Since the Defi summer in 2020, colossal liquidity has been provided; GameFi is more like a DeFi with entertainment.

2022 GameFi Overview | Increasing the Experience and Playability

GameFi in 2021 detracted many users from the low payback cycle, and users played mainly to earn instead of being entertained, which caused a low retention rate.

However in 2022 we are already seeing new Web3 game projects that are far more entertaining, with a greater attention to detail, engagement and playability.

More web2 developers join with the finer infrastructure

One of the biggest problems for Web2 game developers to step into GameFi is the integration of the GameFi ecosystem which includes:

  • Wallet
  • SideChain
  • NFT Market Place

Each component of the GameFi ecosystem requires a lot of development and testing and in many cases can be a larger and more expensive project than creating the game.

Companies like Gmatrixs have developed an SDK for GameFi that combines all components, allowing GameFi developers to focus on what they do best — developing engaging and rich games.

The future for GameFi is bright, with a triple A gaming experience around the corner.
